Who we are
The unit
The 298 Squadron is an operational squadron and operates with the Chinook transport helicopter from airbase Gilze-Rijen. Also known as the Defence Helicopter Command (DHC). Being the oldest squadron of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, it has built up a rich history since its foundation in 1945.
The patch
The dragonfly reminds us of those days when fire control was requested from our unit. It is one of the lightest animals of its kind and in this case comparable to the former Light Aircraft Group. In addition, the dragonfly has large observation organs, such as the observations made by the Light Aircraft Group for the artillery. The motto ‘nihil nobis nimium’ expresses that every given assignment, no matter how difficult or strange, will be carried out.
