” As the commanding officer, I welcome you to the website of my squadron! 298 Squadron is one of the oldest units of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. A squadron that over the years has participated in numerous missions with various aircraft and helicopter types. A squadron that is currently active with the CH-47F MYII CAAS Chinook transport helicopter. On this site, you can find various emblems, insignias, and other recognizable 298 items. Some from times long past and others that are still in active use.

Alouette II helicopters support Hunter fighter aircraft during their operations. The Alouette helicopters also perform VIP flights and flights to provide mail to passing naval ship.

Tunisia
1970
Alouette III helicopters transport mail, wounded, and sick individuals. They are used for reconnaissance flights and flights to monitor the water levels in reservoirs in the mountains.
Turkey / Iraq
1991
During the Gulf War, Alouette III helicopters are deployed for humanitarian assistance to the Kurds in Northern Iraq as part of “Provide Comfort” and “Operation Haven.”
Former Yugoslavia / ECMM
1991
Three Alouette III helicopters are used to transport Monitor Mission members who verify the Federal Yugoslav Army’s withdrawal from Slovenia according to agreements.
Cambodia / UNTACÂ
1992-1993
Alouette III helicopters conduct reconnaissance flights, transport passengers, and supply small equipment during this UN peacekeeping mission.
Macedonia, Albania, and Kosovo / EFOR
1999
Chinook helicopters are deployed to transfer aid and refugees to various refugee camps and the border area of Albania and Macedonia.
Ethiopia / Eritrea / UNMEE
2000-2001
Chinook helicopters are used to transport personnel and equipment in the challenging operational area as part of the UN peacekeeping mission.
Croatia / Bosnia / SFO
2001-2002
Chinook helicopters serve the SFOR ground troops. One of their tasks is to transport Incident Response Team members to potential casualties among SFOR units and subsequently provide Medevac (medical evacuation) to the hospital.
Macedonia / TFF
2002
TFF supports additional observers during the September elections. Two Chinook helicopters are used for potential medical evacuation tasks.
Iraq / SFIR
2003-2004
Chinook helicopters contribute to stability and security in the Al Muthanna province to facilitate humanitarian aid and reconstruction.
Afghanistan / OEF
2005-2006
Chinook helicopters and a Special Forces (SF) task group participate in the international fight against terrorism. SF operations involve reconnaissance and intelligence gathering, while Chinooks provide transport and supplies.
Afghanistan / ISAF
2007-2010
Chinooks operate under the NATO flag and supply various camps in southern Afghanistan. The first Dutch “Air Assaults” are also conducted during this period.
Mali / UNMEE
2015-2017
Chinooks operate under the UN flag from Gao in the vast Mali, supporting the UN mission and the active Dutch units of the Commando Corps stationed in Gao.
